Classic Homemade Lasagna

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 Medium onion, diced
  • 4 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 Oz crushed tomatoes (1 can)
  • 6 Oz tomato paste
  • 2 Teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • ½ Teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 Oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 Large egg
  • ¼ Cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 Cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 Cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 12 Lasagna noodles

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Large pot
  • Mixing bowls
  • Colander
  • Aluminum foil

Method
 

  1. Boil lasagna noodles until al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until fragrant.
  3. Brown ground beef, drain excess fat.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and seasonings; simmer 15-20 minutes.
  5. Mix ricotta, egg, and parsley in a bowl.
  6. Layer in baking dish: sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, Parmesan, meat sauce. Repeat 3 times.
  7. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake 25-30 more minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Rest 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
